I watched the Super Bowl today. Not because I really cared about either team, but rather to see the way-too-expensive, way-too-short half­time show. I was appalled at what I saw. I was happy to see pop music pio­neers Aero­smith on the stage. But I nearly cried when they were joined by the likes of tal­ent­less bop­pers NSync, Brit­ney Spears, Nelly, and Mary J. Blige. (The last one is not nearly as bad as its pre­de­ces­sors.) It sick­ens me that the truly tal­ented old are forced to have their coat­tails rid­den by the new, all for the sake of mak­ing them seem more appeal­ing to an audi­ence that hates them. The hypocrisy of this world really annoys the fuck out of me. But like all who have com­plained about this in the past, I pride myself in being part of the soci­ety I loathe so much …
