Words from the Not-So-Wise

To the Class of 2002, or any class, really, I have the following words of "wisdom". This entry would otherwise be known as "All The Things I've Learned Since I Got Out of High School, And Wish I Knew Then"but that's a kinda long title. Anywho, take it for what you will.…

Live For Today. Not tomorrow, but today. For all you know, tomorrow may never come. Please, don't spend your time hoping for tomorrow, for if you do, your life might pass you by.

There are No Certainties. Trust me, even if you think there are, you are wrong. Heh, look at all the people who invested in Enron. Okay, now get out of the homeless shelter before you become just like them. Just understand that nothing is certain.

Don't Take Your Loved Ones For Granted. Now, this is more of a general ruleand it's something I wish I would have put into practice at a point or two in my life. If you push and push and push, one day, you'll wake up… and they'll be gone.

The Past Is Gone. I've spent quite a while trying to hold on to something that is no longer therehigh school. Not only that, I've spent quite a considerable amount of time wishing that I could change things I've done. I can't, and neither can you. Take the best of what you have now, and leave the rest behind, as it can only slow you down.

Do For Yourself. At this time in life, you cannot depend on anyone elseand you shouldn't, as they might not necessarily always be there for you. You need to learn to be on your own. (And I need to learn how to take my own advice.)

In short, kids, do all the things I couldn't.
