Project UNIX Name: dvdphiler
Project Description: A comprehensive web-based DVD catalogue written in PHP which uses mySQL for storage. Store titles, year, synopses, comments, rating, boxart, studio, and other fields. Display all titles, by genre, studio, rating or any way that you wish. Built-in search.
Registration Description: A comprehensive OS-independent DVD archiver/catalog software coded in PHP 4 which uses mySQL for data storage.
Features:
- Includes the ability to add title, genre, studio, year, external movie link (via IMDb or defined) user comments, user rating, thumbnail creation of box art (via ImageMagick library).
- Planned support for a multi-user installation will allow several people at once to catalog their discs and have separate output pages for each collection.
- Through included display templates, upon installation, a user will be able to completely customize the appearance and display of the program, which attributes are displayed, and how. Allows the user to make the program have the unique look of their web site via includes and template tags.
- Front-end search by title, year, studio, genre. All configurable.
- Quick statistics output on main page.
- Completely web-based administration system for users, including backend searching for quick editing, user management, backup processing, all protected with username/password/access level restrictions.
- Planned optional plug-ins include "currently watching" output on separate pages, "stats" output on separate pages, "amazon.com affiliates" linking, as well as "visitor comments" function.
I am not looking to re-invent the wheel with this script. Simply, after reviewing the few options there were available for this type of program, I did not find any that lived up to my expectations. This will include all the features I want to see, and hopefully be easily-coded enough so that others may add on what they wish.

This comes from a submission I sent today to SourceForge. I've been kicking the project around in my head for a while, but never thought I could even begin to do it the way I wanted to until recently while I was working on the website for Troma Team Video.
And then it came to me, I can do this!
So, I applied the project to SourceForge and hopefully it will get approved so I can start development soon. It's going to be a bit of a pet project and I'm going to take my time. I want to at least try and do a good job.
With hopefully a good friend or two to assist me (Indi?) and the knowledge I've amassed thus far, I might be able to make this happen. Stay tuned…
