One of the things I hinted about in the last entry is now com­ing to pass: Lan­phear at Large, exclu­sively on Newsvine.com.

Newsvine is "a place where any­one can read, write and influ­ence the news." Newsvine is the brain­child of one Mike David­son, pre­vi­ously known for his cre­ation of sIFR as well as being the Man­ager of Media Prod­uct Devel­op­ment at The Walt Dis­ney Inter­net Group. Newsvine is a truly col­lab­o­ra­tive news and dis­cus­sion engine, and I'm hop­ing that as the prod­uct moves out of beta, more and more peo­ple will be using Newsvine to get and con­tribute their news and opinions.

I first became excited about Newsvine in read­ing Mike's site. After leav­ing Troma, I started to think about some serious(-ish) writ­ing again, and this seems to be the way. I think hav­ing one sub­ject is a bit too restric­tive for my tastes, so I'm going to write about what­ever news inter­ests me. Per­haps it might even inter­est oth­ers along the way, no?

It's been nearly three years since my last foray into the legit­i­mate writ­ing world. Some of you long-term fans may remem­ber a short-lived col­umn by yours truly enti­tled "Let's Make Some Art: The World of Schlock Cin­ema," an exclu­sive on direc­tor Kevin Smith's MoviePoopShoot.com. Art was quite fun for me to write, and I'm look­ing for­ward to doing this again.

So check in on Lan­phear at Large from time to time. There are RSS feeds to make sure you don't miss an arti­cle, and I'll soon be list­ing the arti­cles and links on a side­bar for an upcom­ing revi­sion of this site.

UPDATE 1/9: When I posted this, I guess I for­got that Newsvine was still a pub­lic beta, so unless you have an account, you won't be able to view my col­umn. So yeah, I'll announce when it moves out of beta and the col­umn is live.
